On the basis of the category-wise distribution, the top most 224,000 aspirants will be able to get selected to appear in JEE Advanced 2018. This means in contrast to the last year, this year 4000 more students will be able to appear in the exam.

The age limit has been relaxed for the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and PErsons with disabilities candidates by 5 %. However, for the other categories the age limit is the same. Other than this the candidates should be able to come in the top 20 percentile of successful students with respect to their boards.

The overall decision to bring the changes in the eligibility criteria taken by the Joint Admission Board (JAB) is the result of incessant increasing intake, in the past three years, in all the IITs. The number of vacancies after the counselling was 121 in 2017, which has soared up from the 96 in 2016.

The percentage of reservation is 27% for OBC-NCL (Other Backward Classes Non-Creamy Layer), 15% for SC (Scheduled Caste) and 7.5% for ST (Scheduled Tribe). The general category is the remaining 50.5 %. Furthermore, to support the candidates of PWD category, 5% horizontal reservation will be provided from each category.
